Safety
Before you use CLEARSTILL
Stopping suddenly can be dangerous for some people. If you drink heavily or daily, or you have ever had shaking, sweating, nausea, a racing heart, confusion or a seizure after not drinking, do not stop on your own. Withdrawal can be medically serious. Talk to a doctor first — treatment for it exists, and it works.
What this app is
CLEARSTILL is a companion for people choosing to drink less. It records what you tell it, shows you your own progress honestly, and offers something to do when a craving arrives.
What it is not
- It is not medical treatment, therapy, or a detox programme.
- It is not a medical device and gives no diagnosis.
- It never assesses whether it is safe for you to stop drinking. That judgement needs a clinician who can examine you.
- It is not an emergency service, and there is nobody reading what you write.
In an emergency
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services. In the EU and the UK, call 112 or 999. In the US and Canada, call 911.
Finding real support
Talking to a doctor about drinking is a normal, unremarkable appointment for them. They will have had the conversation many times this month.
- World Health Organization — Alcohol, with country-level information.
- Your own doctor or local health service, who can advise on stopping safely and on what support exists near you.
- Peer support groups, if that suits you — CLEARSTILL is not affiliated with any programme and takes no position on which approach is right for you.
How the app tries not to make things worse
Apps in this category can do harm by accident, so a few things are deliberate:
- A drinking day never erases your progress and never resets a total. It is recorded in warm gold, never red.
- You are never shown a subscription offer because you logged a drinking day.
- Craving support is free and always will be. Help in a hard moment is not something to sell.
- Nothing in the app tells you that you have failed, or ranks you against anyone else.
